First and foremost, thanks for stopping by. I’m Will, and I’m the responsible party around here.
Before we go any further, let’s get the elephant in the room out of the way immediately: Will Z’s Blog Thing is one lousy title. Trust me, I know all about it. Apparently, five-words-or-less of internet snark isn’t as easy to pull out of one’s behind as I’d have thought it was before I tried. As far as I can figure, one of two things will happen with it: either I’ll have a flash of “genius” and replace it, or we’ll all learn to live with it, kinda like the drunken uncle who says just enough funny things to keep him invited to family functions year after year.
So this is the part of new blogger orientation where I tell you a bit about myself, hopefully in less than an eternity. Here goes: 36 years old, no kids, suburban New Yorker. I’m a writer who does freelance computer work. The latter of those two things pays the bills, although I’d really like to make the former supplant it sometime soon. My partner in crime of seven years is the lovely Miss Rhea. She’s a young children’s entertainer/educator: you can find out all about it here. Essentially, we’re both big kids trying to make our way through real adulthood with varying degrees of success; all of the “love” and some of the “life” parts of this blog will be about our ongoing quest. I hope you’ll both point-and-laugh and root for us in equal quantities.
One of the things that brought Rhea and I together in the first place is a deeply rooted love of music, specifically of this rock ‘n’ roll stuff all the kids seem to dig these days. Speaking for myself, I’ve never really outgrown being a shameless fan-boy of the music that I love. It’s an interesting thing: I’m at the age where I don’t really hear nearly as much new stuff as I used to, but I still love everything I’ve always held dear with as much zeal and passion as ever.
Originally, this was going to just be a music blog. In fact, I’d even gone as far as to write an intro for it, which will conveniently be the post right after this one. Ultimately, I decided that if I were going to actually invest the time and effort to maintain a blog that I didn’t want it to be so limited in scope. After all, the music we love appeals to us largely based upon who we are, and the lives we’ve lived. I’m guessing that some of my guests will be here just for the music writing, and others just for the more general topics. That’s totally cool: I’ll be sure to keep my tags clear and straight, although I hope that fans of one subject will at least give the other stuff a shot. Whaddaya got to lose, right?
I hope you’ll enjoy what you find here. Thank you for reading.
